newblender

What would Blender look like if its source were designed for AI agents first, and not for a human holding a mouse? A research lab that measures before it redesigns.

The bet: today’s agent integrations (MCP servers, bpy wrappers, add-on bridges) bolt an agent onto an architecture built around a human operator. newblender asks what changes when the agent is the primary user. It starts by measuring where the old assumptions actually live in the source.

Dead facts

Four beliefs the design no longer assumes: the human operates and the AI helps; humans read the source; agents need tiny imperative steps; the UI is the source of truth.

Discovery

2,498 operators registered, 1,605 of them context-dependent. 78 real production files dissected. Every modelling operator traced to where it is gated.

Live demos

An agent builds real shots in Blender 5.2 through a live bridge. Every build is judged by checks written before the build.

Blind scoring

Agent renders are mixed with real film frames and rated without knowing which is which. First result: 1.67 vs. 4.00 out of 5.

Process: RFC, then discovery, then spec, then plan. No engine code exists yet, and none will be written before a spec is approved.
