The research program is proposed in RFC 0001 and is open for comment. Every phase is a milestone; every item is on the roadmap board.

Phase 0: Root-cause map In progress
Primary-source notes on who owns what, layer by layer. The prior-work survey is done. Exit: every layer has a written root-cause note with sources.

Phase 1: Test corpus & scorecard Next
Hard test strings, plus a harness that scores any terminal + multiplexer + app stack. Exit: a v0 scorecard published for at least 3 terminals.

Phase 2: Fonts & terminals Planned
Font recommendations, configurations and upstream rendering fixes.

Phase 3: Multiplexers Planned
Shaping and bidi passed through tmux and Zellij intact.

Phase 4: Editors & TUI frameworks Planned
Fixes or plugins for Neovim, readline/zle, Ink, ratatui and similar.

Phase 5: Bidi ownership standard Planned
Working with maintainers to finish and adopt a bidi negotiation standard.
Current focus
